The Fort la Reine Museum is located on the east edge of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The museum is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Canadian Prairies generally and more specifically the history of the City and Municipality of Portage la Prairie.
Fort la Reine Museum has over 25 different buildings displaying thousands of individual artifacts including native artifacts that pre-date the arrival of Europeans to more modern pieces such as farm equipment and military artifacts from the 20th Century. Explore the life of early pioneers, discover the trials of frontier entrepreneurs and follow along their journey of trading fur for goods.
There are many buildings to discuss. The frontier structures will allow you to understand the hardships, ambitions and more of the early pioneers whilst being immersed in their histories. The pionner village replicates a main street the fire hall, general store school house and more.
The era specific homes feature several homes from different historic eras to exhibit the lifestyles, technologies, and designs from specific decades. Discover the Victorian period on the prairies and see what life was like for the Campbell family during the 1940's and 1950s. There's lots to see and discover that will make an educational and exciting day out!
