Cottonwood House Historic Site is located 26 kilometres east of Quesnel, BC, and is a preserved road house on the Gold Rush Trail to Barkerville Historic Town. It's a resting place to travellers between Barkerville and Quesnel and will allow you to experience over 75 years of the Boyd family history and much more! Cottonwood House is one of the last remaining roadhouses in British Columbia.
The site provides valuable training in tourism and agriculture, as well as it being a great place for families to visit and learn more about the history. You can tour the many heritage buildings on site, including the Double Barn which was built in 1895 and the General Store building in 1888. The General Store also has a cafe and gift shop for you to pick up a souvenir to remember your visit by.
The trail system is a must visit. The 3km wheelchair accessible trail system will allow you to experience all aspects of the 26 acre site. The trails include the roaming river trail, wild flower, way, meadow meander and the farmers freeway. There's also lots of picnic stops along the way if you fancy a bit of relaxation! It's important to desk for all weather conditions and allow at least 1 hour for a guided tour so you explore the buildings and gift shop too.
