About this activity

Chiefswood National Historic Site stands testament to the legacy of the Johnson Family and within the societal sphere of Six Nations in the 19th century. Home to a Mohawk Confederacy Chief, and infamous daughter-Emily Pauline Johnson; the site is an invaluable educational tool to the Six Nations Community and beyond.

The site has undergone several restorations throughout it's history and reopened in 1997. Have the chance to explore the roles and responsibilities of Pauling Johnson and her family. Compare your own roles with the lives of the Jognson family. You can also have the opportunity to make a wampum belt bracelet to represent their roles and responsibilities within their lives at school and at home too.

Learn about the traditions and celebrations too. Explore and discuss your own traditions and compare with the lives of the Johnson family. There's also a scavenger hunt too,  where during a guided tour you'll learn about the clothing, food, work play and more. Learn about e.Pauline Johnson's poetry too and create a bookmark that highlights important aspects frm her works. There's lots of education programs on offer to delight children and provide a fun educational experience.
