About this activity

Nationally designated for its magnificent interior, Annandale House serves as a monument to the Victorian style of design known as the Aesthetic Art Movement. Popularized by Oscar Wilde, this movement encouraged the use of colour and decorative detailling in all areas of the home.

From extravagant, hand-painted ceilings and elaborate inlaid floors to ornate mantles, hinges and stained glass, Annandale truly combines the best of what the Aesthetes professed. Built in the 1880s by E.D. Tillson, first mayor of Tillsonburg, Annandale National Historic Site is a visual experience you won't soon forget. The museum complex provides visitors the opportunity to tour both restored period rooms and local history galleries.

The Pratt Gallery showcases the world of local artisits and well as some items from the museum's collection. There are many exhibits and events too that are held here. During the festive period, get involve and single and learn some Christmas classics, whilst you learn about the history of seasonal music or head to the art show where you may even pick up a gift for your loved ones! The museum is considered to be one of the best surviving examples of the Aesthetic Art Movement in Canada and is a must visit.
