Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead is a museum dedicated to sharing Adelaide's message of women's education and family nutrition. Based in the childhood home, the site features history over 3 acres of land to explore. There are changing exhibits all year round and lots of events for all ages to enjoy.
Adelaide Hunter was born in 1857, at the Homestead. Just a few months after her birth her father, David Hunter, died. This left her widowed mother to manage the household and farm with the help of her children, including young "Addie." Adelaide attended German Public School and then Ladies College in nearby Brantford. Growing up on a mid-19th century farm with its privations and isolation perhaps inspired her to take up the cause of domestic reform.
Over the festive period the house is decorated with fabulous Christmas attire! They will share with you the traditional methods of the times and the children will even be able to take home a special present! There's also holiday baking events where you can bake and prepare Victorian treats and music events too throughout the year. Make sure to keep an eye on the website to stay up to date with all of the latest seasonal events!
