All aboard! It's time to head fill your family day out with interactive authentic, heritage and cultural experiences all within Australia's oldest railway workshops still in operation, the Workshop's Rail Museum!

Here, history can come alive for kids as they visit the hands-on exhibits, multi-media encounters and immerse themselves in colourful stories. Of course, at the museum there is also a huge steam locomotive collection too!

What's great about the exhibits at the Workshop's Rail Museum is kids can meet some true Aussie characters as they step into a real heritage railway workshop and see it in operation. It's exactly how it was 150 years ago! 

The 15 exhibits showcase the enormous impact that rail has had on the lives of all Australians. Kids can see up close the beautifully restored carriages, and even the largest model railways of Queensland. They can even explore treasured icons including Australia's oldest working steam locomotive!

The Workshops' Rail Museum also host a number of events across the year, including pop up fun, play and learn for the little ones, and Museum Open Day which offers FREE entry!

So why not spend your next family day out learning about Australia's fascinating locomotive history. The past will come back to life all around you, and it shows kids that history CAN be fun!

The Workshop's Rail Museum FAQ’s

There is a cafe on site where you can pick up delicious food and drinks! The cafe is open 9:30am - 4pm daily, but the hot food stops at 2:30pm

Allow at least 3 hours to enjoy all of the activities

Schools visiting during Queensland school hours are admitted FREE! Make sure you pre book and complete their school booking form.

Why not pack a picnic and snacks are enjoy in the grounds? Take water too!

There are accessible bathrooms, armless seating is offered and wheelchairs are available for use within the Museum from Ticket Office. They are free of charge and subject to availability. Exhibition access is also accessible too
