About this activity

One way to explore a tropical rainforest is taking a beautiful stroll through the undergrowth, looking up at the treetops above and wandering what it would be like to be a bird and see the forest from up near the clouds.

The other way, is to get to Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and get up WITH the birds!

The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway in Cairns is an incredible experience where the whole family can see the rainforest from a completely new angle.

The Skyrail experience takes you across 7.5km of pristine rainforest, and allows kids to learn about the wonders of the ancient forest, which is one of the more botanically fascinating and diverse areas on the entire planet.

Sit comfortably (and safely!) in six-person gondolas which will glide you just metres over the rainforest canopy. You will be able to hear, smell and immerse yourself in the entire rainforest environment.

There are two rainforest mid-stations where you can then check out the forest from the boardwalks, making a quick stop at the Rainforest Interpretation Centre.

A one-way experience takes about 90 minutes to complete, and if you are looking to do a return you should allow about 2.5 hours.

They great part of Skyrail Rainforest Cableway experience, is you can walk as much or as little as you like. Great for all types of families!

You can do this experience as just a day tour, or you can combine it with other attractions such as the Karuna Scenic Railway.

If you ever wanted to know what it would feel like to be a bird high up in the trees, this is as close as you can get!

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway FAQ’s

Skyrail was one of the first tourism attractions in Australia to achieve Ecotourism Australia Advanced certification.

You can't eat and drink in the gondolas, but you are more than welcome to recharge in all of the terminals.

The rainforest is best in the rain, so on a fine day or a wet day, it will be amazing! There are also complimentary umbrellas in the mid-stations. They will look after you!

The Skyrail gondola is able to accommodate most standard wheelchairs. There is ramp access to all boardwalks and disabled toilets available.
There are size restrictions for wheelchairs travelling on Skyrail so just check these before you book. They also must have handles to ensure easy lifting into the gondola cables.
