About this activity

The Powerhouse Museum is a museum of design and science located in central Sydney. It's packed full of interactive and multi media exhibits, displays and programming to get kids' imaginations and their brains purring while they rake over some key scientific concepts.

The programme of events at the museum is wide ranging and freqently changing, so it's hard to tell you what to expect, but it's always fun, educational, and where possible, spectacular!

The Museum’s Level 1 courtyard has been transformed into an outdoor playground during their recent refurbishment. Children will have lots of fun playing on the state-of-the art equipment. And it’s right next to the cafe, so parents and carers can relax at the courtyard tables while keeping an eye on their children enjoying themselves.

Some museums claim to be child friendly when really they mean child tolerant, but these guys are so sincere about it, they even have a whole different website (accessed through the main one) for families and kids, and every special event they have is for them.

Ramps and the glass-walled lift (a highlight for children) enable access with a pram or stroller to all the gallery levels of the Powerhouse. Children require adult supervision when using the escalators (and for safety reasons, prams and strollers are not permitted on the escalators).

To get help if you and your child get separated in the Museum, look for the staff wearing blue Powerhouse shirts or ask at the cloaking counter on level 3. Lost children will be taken to the cloaking counter.
