Want to start with a very cool fact about Naracoorte Caves? Well, did you know that they are the ONLY World Heritage Site in the entire South Australia?
You know that they have to be pretty special! They were listed because of the fossils found within the caves, so you know that not only will you be enjoying a magical geological experience, but also history too!
For over 500,000 years, the caves actually acted as a traps and dens for predators, so across the years, layers of bones would collect. Because of this, we know exactly the kind of animals that lived in the area - and then when humans came along!
There are 28 caves within the park, and luckily for you there are 4 of them that are open for the public, so you can explore these amazing natural wonders. (The other canes are there for scientific research)
A cave tour is an essential part of your Naracoorte Caves experience. Cave tours last between 30 minutes to an hour, with some longer adventure cave tours. Whether you're an adventurer or just like to take things in your stride, there's something to delight and fascinate you in the Naracoorte Caves.
More gung-ho types can enjoy some adventure caving! Stick-Tomato Cave offers a great tour for the entire family. The squeezes and challenges are optional, allowing parents to watch children enjoy the caving experience. A minimum age of eight applies.
The general tour is well lit., despite being underground and most kids are absolutely fine with it. There are several Other types of tours available are less suited to young families, but well worth looking into if you have an over 12.
