An impressive assortment of Australian creatures can be found at Kuranda Koala Gardens. Boasting Australia's first walk through snake house, Kuranda Koala Garden is not just about the koalas, there are a number of other species to visit with too including reptiles, kangaroos and wallabies, wombats and big crocodiles.
One of the very few places in Australia where you can take a souvenir photo with a koala (extra charge applies). For something different, you can have your picture taken with a large python, for a small additional fee. Aussie Bush Collection is a fascinating ecosystem composed of marsupials and reptiles living together in harmony. You can see Long-nosed Potoroos, Bearded Dragons, and Blue Tongue Lizards, among others.
Suitable for all ages and most levels of mobility, they have a hands on approach with many of the animals, allowing at certain times hand feeding, koala cuddling and plenty of interaction.
There are only two nocturnal exhibits in the Tablelands region: Kuranda Koala Gardens, where visitors can see up close some night-loving marsupials like the Greater Bilby, Northern Bettong, and the rare Mahogany Glider.
Kuranda Koala Gardens is a wildlife attraction situated in Kuranda, a rainforest village known for its heritage markets. The wildlife park is home to an assortment of Australian creatures, including wallabies, wombats, quokkas, gliders, and freshwater crocodiles. There is also a zone focusing on pioneering history as there is a filial link between the owners and significant pioneers.
Kuranda Koala Gardens is only 40 minutes north west of Cairns. You can get to Kuranda via the Captain Cook Highway and Kennedy Highways. Drive yourself, hire a car, take a bus or book a tour.
