Sharks, rays, and that big wide open ocean of ours have evoked a fear in most people. “Monsters of the Deep” they are called – but in reality, they are beautiful and gentle creatures and like you, they have personalities!
Formerly the Australian Shark and Ray Center, Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters breaks down those cliches about these beautiful creatures.
Ever thought you would walk under sharks at night? Eat supper with the sharks? SWIM with the sharks!? WHAT?
At the centre, even kids as young as two years old can actively participate in feeding, playing and of course swimming (eeek!) with the rays and the sharks. But don’t worry – as we said, they are completely gentle creatures! Kids will really learn a new appreciation for the animals (and of course still be versed in how to stay safe in the real ocean). They will learn to understand their nature, and their habits.
They will be standing just waist deep or less, and hand-feed (yes, that’s HAND feed) those beautiful rays and sharks.
The centre have even had 6 month old babies in the water (grannies they have had 80 year olds too so get ready!)
Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters are the only ones in the world that are dedicated to offering incredible shark and ray feeding experiences.
They feed all day, everyday. Did we mention the sharks might be up to 3m in length? Did we mention that the rays might weight up to 300kg? Did we forget that point before? Go on – be brave! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.
They also hold fun experiences like night time feeding (because most of the species are nocturnal) as well as the dinner of a lifetime – in the middle of the shark tank! Crazy!
