About this activity

A garden for a fun family day out? Of course! Because Hunter Valley Gardens aren't just your average backyard garden. Nope! They are 25 acres of incredible gardens with all sorts of incredible features for you to enjoy!

The Sunken Garden is one of the more diverse feature gardens, and comes with it's own 10m waterfall! Kids always love the Storybook Garden which features all your favourite nursery rhyme characters. Visit Humpty Dumpty on the wall (just make sure he doesn't fall!) or see Jack and Jill as they tumble down the hill! Always wanted to join the Mad Hatters Tea Party? Join the party! It's a fun journey through childhood memories, fairytales and dreams!

Hunter Valley Gardnes also have a traditional Chinese garden, an Oriental garden, and a beautiful Rose garden for all those super romantic parents out there!

Did we just say gardens? Our bad - because they are even MORE than just gardens! Go up against your family on the 18 holes of fun mini golf. (Naturally the course is beautifully landscaped through their gardens!), or if you want something a little different you can hit floating golf balls into a 5000 sqm lake! If your ball lands in a floating net you win a price! (These include Hot Air Balloon rides, and dinners!) Pretty cool!

Of course, what garden would be complete without a train! Yep we said train! You can view all of the gardens on their 40 minute continuous tour aboard the Hunter Valley Gardens Express, complete with a full commentary which will give you a fresh and interesting (and educational!) point of view to see the gardens by.

They have a ton of events across the year too, so make sure you check them out and plan your trips accordingly (including a fun Christmas event!)

Let's all see those green thumbs!

Hunter Valley Gardens FAQ’s

Of course there is plenty to eat! You have a whole day to stay energised for! There are a number of restaurants, including pub food, and of course tastes like chocolate and cookies! You really won't go hungry!

The train departs every 45 minutes and carry a maximum of 20 people each. They recommend that you arrive at the pick up point 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. It is advised to pre-book just so you don't miss out!

There is a wide range of shops here but with kids you'll be wanting The Lolly Shop! (Kids, you have to be VERY good to be able to go here!)

They offer great rates for school trips, simply book in advance and the whole class can enjoy!

The gardens are of course wheelchair friendly, and allow access to all areas. They also have free loan of wheelchairs at Garden Entry.

If you wanted to extend your day into a weekend or longer, they have accommodation right there for you.
