About this activity

Australia has some pretty incredible historic places, and some you might not even realise! Take the Dawn Fraser Baths for example. Did you know that these baths, located in Elkington Park, is actually the OLDEST pool in the entire country? That's pretty impressive!

Dawn Fraser Baths are on the National Trust, and are also listed on the Register of National Estate, so you know they are pretty special. They have been renovated and preserved, to ensure not only the history stays for people to learn about, but also so the pool is there for future generations!

The baths are a tidal flow salt water, and kids love low tide when they have a beach perfect for building sandcastles! How fun is that?

Here's another fun fact about the Dawn Fraser Baths. Did you know that the very first game of water polo in Australia was actually played in these baths? Can you guess when? It was around 1888 - so you can see how much history there is!

The baths are a harbour pool, which means that you always know what the condition of them are because they are reported daily. With a general temperature over summer of 19 - 23C, you know that there is some serious fun to be had!

For those hungry tummies, there is also a kiosk that sells hot food and snacks, and most importantly - ice cream.

Everything you want for a family day out in Balmain - sun, food, swimming - and sand castles!

Let's get swimming into history!
