About this activity

Darling Down is a privately owned zoo split into continental sections: Africa, South America, South-east Asia and Australia plus the only permanent white lion exhibit in Queensland. The attraction is suited to all age groups and hard surfaced paths are wheel and push chair accessible.

Daily events include python display, big cat feeding and keep talks, plus if you fancy spending the money Special Encounters are available with pre booking.

They specialize in serving a variety of Big Cat species, as well as a few Small Cat species. In addition to the tawny African lions, there are rare white lions from the Timbavati and Kruger regions of South Africa.

The  zoos tigress is a member of the Australasian Captive Breeding Program for the critically endangered Sumatran Tiger. You have to look carefully to spot her hiding among the vines, as she is rather shy.

The animals are in naturalistic habitats with informative and educational postings on the species you encounter.

All the zoo's paths are composed of fine gravel, which makes them challenging for wheelchairs or baby buggies with small wheels, particularly after rain. Wheelchair accessible paths with fine gravel are found at this rural savannah country zoo. It should be noted, however, that this is not a wheelchair-friendly environment. After rain, paths may be particularly slippery for a wheelchair or a pram with small wheels.
