What is there to do?

Whether you're an expert or have never sat on a horse before, the lovely staff at Darkes Forest Riding Ranch will make sure you have a great time!

The ride leaders at the ranch are very experienced, and just love horses and riding so all kids will be in safe hands!

Kids can take a lesson to either gain the skills and confidence as they start out, or enjoy some trail rides if they are a bit more stable on the horse.

They are keen to share their absolute love of riding to anyone, of any age, but they do have classes and activities designed especially for children. These are age-appropriate and they understand that kids of the same age brackets will have different experiences and rates of learning, so they really take care in making sure every child is looked after.

The lessons that they have for adults are perfect for beginners and advanced riders too, so you can join and learn alongside each other!

If kids really take to the horse and want to make it a regular thing, they have Pony Club which is held about once a month.  Each month they have a different event, such as dressage instruction, dress up days and hacking days, so there will be always something new to learn!

If horses make you a bit nervous, they understand. The have made sure all of their horses are calm, reliable, and great around kids. The experienced trail riders will be right there with you, mile upon mile of stunning bushland that you can ride through. Perhaps you will be lucky and spot some local wildlife!

The rides can be 30 minutes to 2 hours, or you can combine with one of their package tours, so great value all around!

How much does it cost?

Children: Under 7 pony rides from $20. Fun rides from $40. Lessons from $43.

Any top tips?

During school holidays, they offer fun and exciting day camps for the younger kids. They can really learn about what it's like to take care of a horse, and enjoy a day of riding. The groups are small so all experience levels are really looked after.
