The Australian countryside is amazing for kids to explore, so why not get out there and enjoy it on your next family day out! Chifley Dam is located near Campbell's River, and is the major water storage for Bathurst itself. It is also open for water activities, and gives the family an excuse to get out into nature!
The catchment area itself is 960 sq km, and offers a boat ramp as well as the option to get out onto the water with the kids.
If you want to enjoy a little longer in the area, you can try the Chifley Dam Cabins which can be found on the waterways, and if you want to take it back to basics, the Chifley Dam Primitive Camping Area is for you! Here, you can be in reach of the recreation area, and gives kids that camping experience they will always remember.
You can spend the day at Chifley Dam fishing, or swimming - which the kids certainly need in those Australian summer days! You can sail, or waterski, or simply enjoy the scenery.
Your day at Chifley Dam is also great for kids to learn about how things work! They can learn all about how the water is released from the dam down Campbell's River, and into the Macquarie River. Then, it's drawn from there to supply Bathurst. Pretty impressive!
So kids, next time you turn on your taps, you will know where your water has come from!
Nature is waiting at this great outdoor adventure in Bathurst.
The major water storage for Bathurst is Chifley Dam located on the Campbell's River some 17 kilometres upstream of Bathurst.
