About this activity

Want a day with the family surrounded by 40 beautiful hectares of nature? Of course you do, and you don't even have to leave Ballarat to do that! Ballarat Botanical Gardens are an incredible nature-filled experience divided into three distinct zones. The central zone are the Botanical Gardens which preserve the style of the iconic Victorian pleasure garden. Either side, there are open parkland buffers known as the North and South Gardens.

Each area has a distinct feel, and offers something special to families just like you.

The Ballarat Botanical Gardens are one of the country's most significant cool climate gardens, which is pretty cool (excuse the pun!).  They contain an incredible collection of marble statues, and mature trees, all set among some pretty amazing colours which the kids will love to look at.

Who would have thought only 4km from the CBD would be a garden paradise!

Want to spend time with some of Australia's past Prime Ministers? Don't worry, not all in person at once! In fact, Prime Ministers Ave has a great collection of busts all set in some majestic trees.

How about some history? Well, way back in 1884,a group of statues were unveiled in the gardens. These caused thousands of visitors to all arrive at once to see the spectacle! These were actually 12 marble statues that were bought by a wealthy Ballarat citizen, who flew to Italy to get them. That's some dedication!

There are collections of ferns, grasses, and indigenous plants, as well as 52 trees that are listed on the National Trust Significant Trees Register, and with a range of habitats too, there is so much nature to be experienced at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens!

Have an amazing day!
