About this activity

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

Showcasing 1500 hand reared tropical butterflies from local rainforest species living freely for you to walk through.

The Butterfly House and Flight Aviary is the largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit in Australia, and it is located in the heart of the Kuranda village, which is renowned for its beauty.

You’ll be enthralled by the aerial dynamics of these mysterious, rare nature wonders as you wander through our rainforest aviary’s gardens, home to over 1500 tropical butterflies. Cairns Birdwings, a local rainforest species renowned for its green and yellow colouring, are among our butterflies.

The aviary is of equal attraction and you can join guided tours and visit the laboratory to explore butterfly life cycles and see how their breeding success rate is better than nature's.  An aviary filled with over 1500 tropical butterflies, you will be mesmerised by the magnificence of these elusive nature wonders as you wander through the rainforest gardens. The Cairns Birdwing, a local rainforest species, is green and yellow.

It's an attraction of all age appeal and makes excellent photo opportunities.
