About this activity

Kids - who wants to get away from the televisions and out into the beautiful NEW nature...! We do!

Abercrombie Karst Conservation Reserve is only four hours in the car from Sydney. Situated in a peaceful, picturesque valley, the reserve are right near Abercrombie Caves.

Pack some lunch (and plenty of water!) and just explore, play, and have fun!

If you are a bit of a fishing family, Grove Creek runs through the main Archway, and rainbow trout can often be found in the great, deep holes. Keep in mind fishing is restricted to the summer season (but who wants to sit outside fishing in the windy rain!?), and it is also restricted to downstream of the large causeway.  (You will be able to spot this with the swing bridge above).

We struck gold! Well, we actually didn't...but you could! You can try your luck with fossicking for gold, garnets, sapphire and zircon. You can start at the same area as the fishing, just south of the Archway, and the best area runs along the bed of the creek for 600 metres. Bear in mind, they still want the environment looked after so just don't dig the riverbanks.

If you fancy stretching your legs, the walking track takes you through the bushland right alongside the stunning Grove Creek, and actually finishes at the incredible Grove Creek Falls! The water will tumble over 70 metres tot he rocks below. It's quite incredible!

For day-trippers with not much time, you can also reach the falls by road if you wanted to pop up and still enjoy the view.

Birdwatchers you will be in heaven as there will be a host of parrots and rosellas as you make your way back!

There is also a Mount Gray walking track where you can journey back in time where the hopeful gold miners once braved the harsh and remote conditions looking to strike gold!

This medium walk will take you back to the 1880s, and ultimately lead you to the Grove Creek Falls as well.

If that's not enough for you, there are commercial tours you can take part in, such as the Aussie Farmstay, and fun off-road 4WD tours!

Doesn't that sound more fun than the television!?
