Where are we going today?

Did you know that for nearly a century Tradewinds Charters have been providing super fun, educational and fascinating tours for families in Oregon? They must be doing something right!

Located in Depoe Bay, Tradewinds Charters have all sorts of tours that you can pick from, so you can have all sorts of experiences AND pick the right one for your family!

Let's start with the fishing trips! As they like to say, "Quit Wishin' Go Fishin" - and we agree! For those experienced fishermen, as well as those who have never touched a rod before, these tours are for you.

The crew will give you all the gear you need for the perfect experience. There is even fish cleaning available at the docks, so it will be all ready for you to cook for dinner! Why not take a 5 hour bottom fishing trip, or bottom fishing with crabbing? You might get lucky and catch a Halibut or a Chinook salmon!

From the smaller fish, to those huge mammals of the waters, Tradewinds Charters gives you an unforgettable experience on their one and two hour whale watching trips. The departure point is SO close to the ocean, that it won't be long before you start spotting whales! With whale watching almost all year round, it's a sight in Oregon that might take your breath away!

You might catch a glimpse of those sweet Gray Whales, as they return from the lagoons of Mexico.

Kids will love hearing all the stories and facts about these beautiful creatures of our oceans, and they of course are happy to answer any questions they might have. It's a floating classroom!

No matter what age, the ocean is a beautiful place to explore. So let's get started - Oregon is waiting!

Teachers corner

They do offer group rates so it's worth giving them a call to see what can be done. Whale watching would be incredible for the students! .

Any Top Tips?

The fishing trips are a specific length, unless the fish limit is obtained then they will be shorter. Obvs!.

Doing our bit

The boats know all about how close to get to the whales to keep them stress free and safe, and they have a limit on the amount of fish they can catch. They know what they're doing!.

Need a little extra help?

If you do need help with your disability, give them a call before you book to see what they can do. .

Can I get one of those?

You get to keep the fish you catch! There is fish cleaning for you, so you can enjoy it for dinner! .

It seems almost unfair to dock them for this, but...

I went on one of their hour-long whale watching excursions, and saw no whales... but did a lot of puking. Which is why I'm leaving a less-than-stellar review: not because of the lack of whales necessarily, but because we were told that the ride would "get easier" once we got past the breakers at the bridge at the harbor's inlet.

But this was not the case. At all. It wasn't even a rough day by any means... but the reality is that you're getting thrown up & down for an hour... and that's what...Read More

NOT FOR FIRST TIMERS. Booked a 5 hour fishing trip online after some research as to what the best options would be for a first time trip. I was apprehensive but wanted to do something special. I talked to someone on the phone and was assured that first timers are welcome and that this was the best option. You had to give a deposit and there was no refunds under 48 hours before departure, so we were taking some big risks here. Upon arrival the weather wasn't great, we were a bit skeptical and inquired if it was possible to just do a shorter whale...Read More

My wife and I took three of our kids out for the bottom fishing. Met at 6:15 at the dock and was off at 7am. We were on the boat Sunrise, the Captain and his helper were very personable, likable, and helpful. Those combinations on a nice big boat, made the experience great. The fishing was a little slow for the first hour but then we started catching lots of fish. Everyone was catching Rock Bass, Ling Cod, and I even caught a Sea Trout. Our total was 30 Sea Bass, and 8 Ling Cod just for our family, this was more than some of the other boats...Read More

Disappointing. Half the trip used to drop and retrieve crab pots, for people who paid extra. 8 fish, none of them too big. They need boats that fish, no crabs, cuts into fishing time.

We went out yesterday on the one hour tour. We had good time and we got to see a few whales. I would have liked to get a little closer to them but that's the way it goes. The boat wad clean and the crew were friendly. I would go again. I would to try some tuna fishing.

Upon arrival the weather wasn't great, we were a bit skeptical and inquired if it was possible to just do a shorter whale watching excursion, which they didn't go for. I was still paying full price ($75 each) whether we went fishing or not. So we packed our lunch, dressed warm, did everything they told us to do, because I kept saying we had never been before, and then when we traversed the huge line of people down the stairs to the docks we were screamed at that we needed a license to fish. This seemed incredulous to me that that would not have been taken care of when I paid for everything, especially after all of the "first timer" talk. So we trudged back up to the booth and we treated like we were idiots that we didn't have a license which was going to be another $36. They clearly didn't care, they already had my money, and wanted to make us look bad. So we didn't even make it on the boat. I took a risk with these guys and got burned, hopefully won't happen to you.

Our total was 30 Sea Bass, and 8 Ling Cod just for our family, this was more than some of the other boats all combined. We also caught 34 crabs and now have a freezer full. I highly recommend this company, we will be back.
