About this activity

Did you know that the Three Rivers Avian Center is entirely dedicated to wild bird conservation? That's pretty cool, isn't it! They are also dedicated to educating the public all about these beautiful animals and the work they do, which is why they open their doors once a month over summer so families like YOURS can visit!

The Three Rivers Avian Center is a beautiful 110 acre facility located in the southern portion of the New River Gorge National River.

The first Saturday of the month, between May and October, you can take part in one of their FREE public tours.

Here, you can learn about the research and conservation that they do all year round. You can learn about their efforts to return the birds to the wild, such as when they re-established peregrine falcon populations back into their native homes.

You can also learn all abut how they treat over 110 native wild bird species every year, to help ensure their long term survival.

By having families just like yours visit, you can help support their organization, and in turn help thousands of bird species for future generations!

Now THAT sounds like a great family day out, doesn't it?

Three Rivers Avian Center FAQ’s

They are all about bird conservation, and dedicating themselves to the protection and conservation of birds of prey!

It's a good idea to grab something before and after the visit!

Make sure you take your camera! It's a good idea to call ahead of time, too, to double check the tours are running

They can bring the birds to your school! Their most popular program is "Wings of Wonder - West Virginia Birds of Prey", which runs 45 minutes to an hour during which each bird is presented, on the glove, one at at time. This allows them to tailor the content and present according to the age and educational level to which they are presenting!

Just give them a call to check if the tours are accessible, they will be happy to help!
