Excellent museum, definitely worth the trip, many authentic items from many historic eras. The Monitor exhibit is fascinating. I also enjoyed the gallery featuring artifacts from the Napoleonic Wars/Lord Nelson era. I would allow about 3 hours in order to not feel rushed. It’s easy to find, and parking is good.

For those who love civil and naval Maritime artifacts, an excursion to the museum is a must. Visitors will be enthralled with the diversity and number of exhibits. Plan on 3 hours. Noland Park nearby has a beautiful nature walk and a picturesque view of the James River

Museum is fascinating with beautiful artwork, but the Mariners’ Park is the most peaceful, beautiful park I’ve ever visited. (including Central Park). I will return as often as possible.

I visited once and quickly realized that wasn’t going to be enough. The Museum is astonishing in scope and breadth of maritime history. I look forward to returning.
