The Alexandria Zoological Park was founded in 1926, encompasses 33 shady acres, and is home to more than 600 animals. It is owned and operated by the City of Alexandria, Louisiana. The African Experience: Phase 1, which opened in 2004, and the award winning Louisiana Habitat, which opened in 1998, are two of the zoo's most spectacular exhibits.

Gorgeous landscaping! Lots of shade, wooden walk ways, bamboo, and water fountains. By far the best zoo I have ever been to. The grounds are very clean and the animals look healthy and content.
My girls visited this zoo with their grandparents. They loved it. It took them about 1 1/2 hrs. Then my Dad and I went. We really enjoyed ourselves. We were there 2 hours.
The train ride was a perfect way to finish off our visit to the zoo.
I highly recommend taking your family here.

The zoo looks nice enough and has a decent variety of small-medium animals, but many of them were hard to see. A small bear was the largest thing they have, but they have a lot of birds, cats, and other small animals.
Save your money and skip the train ride--it's just a trip around the perimeter where you get to see the fence, the piles of building materials, and trash.
It's not a very big zoo, but that makes it nice to get through before the kids get really bored and start rioting.
