I have been a big fan of the Cleveland Zoo for years, but I felt a bit disappointed on my last visit.

The Zoo is promoting an exhibit called Penguin Shores. My Wife and Kids love penguins, so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went to the Zoo (we are annual members).

There were signs all throughout the Zoo promote the exhibit and our excitement was high. We passed empty display after empty display on our way there only to find six (6) penguins stuffed in a tiny display. Now there was only one entrance to the display and one exit, which...Read More

I'd say overall we had a decent experience but we thought it was lacking. The lay out is crazy! You can walk for 10 minutes and not see a thing, it's not that the animals are in the shade hiding from the heat but there are LONG stretches of absolutely nothing! If you have small children your either pushing them in a stroller till your so tired you can't take it or they are walking till they are.
Then you get to lunch time and think ok lets support this place and the work they are doing but the only decent food is all the way back where you started....Read More

I really miss the chimpanzees. I understand they left to a bigger area but they were so much fun to watch. I missed them so much on my last visit. I wish the cheetah area was bigger and same with the monkeys and gorillas. But I love Cleveland Zoo...I hope it expands and brings more animals back.

I have been going to the zoo for years and the last few times I have been greatly disappointed in the exihits. The Tigers area is too small, they don't have a pool to play in, and there was no enrichment anywhere. The bear exhibits were all over grown w weeds and looked like it hadn't been touched in a long time. I see that there had been improvements to the zoo, such as a carousel, I feel that the money funded for that should go to the animals...

Kids Day is a joke. $10.99 for face painting! All the little shops don't take credit cards (ever hear of Square) so it's impossible to get water. Overall nice zoo well kept, but price gouging and you should avoid crowded weekends.

We passed empty display after empty display on our way there only to find six (6) penguins stuffed in a tiny display. Now there was only one entrance to the display and one exit, which it so happens funnels you through a temporary gift shop stuffed with penguin themed merchandise.

I was sorely disappointed by this. It seems like I was sent to a tourist trap, a gimmick of shameless and crass marketing and found nothing of any zoological value. Though the little penguins were still cute.

Shame on the management of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for this ridiculous gimmickry!

Top it of with a map that makes as much sense as my 5 year old trying to tell me which way to go and she's never been there and could have done a better job. The employees were giving us bad advice on how to get places and the train ride would be way better if they would just tell you what was really there instead of some fake story they made up about Australia.
They do have a nice range of animals and the Lorikeets were a great experience. I do have to say my child is sound asleep from the crazy amount of walking we had to do. I also like that we got 50% off our admission for being members at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
