I have been there three times and I think the mountain is awesome. However, I think there are far better options out there due to the fact that lines are ridiculous on weekends and holiday weeks. In general that is the case with most mountains but it seems that this mountain feels like, Hunter, overcrowded and personnel afraid to tend to the lines. Live obstacles on every square foot. Personally I will probably avoid the mountain unless it is a non-holiday week. If you go skiing once in while it is fine but if you are a seasoned skier and don't...Read More

One of the best places to go skiing on the east coat and with it being about 3 hours north of manhattan and west of boston it's close to the mayors city. They are the best to make fake snow so even with not a lot of snowfall you will have some great terrain to ski on!

The lines are ridiculous here. Anytime you go during a holiday period they will be, but the lift line mangers do a horrible job holding up the entire line to let multiple ski school groups in. The village is definitely meant for people staying for a week, not day trippers. It's worth going the extra distance to Okemo

If you go skiing once in while it is fine but if you are a seasoned skier and don't want the traffic then go to Gore or Okemo or better yet head for Whiteface. Stratton has very well organized ski schools which is great for families.
I read a comment that it is only 3 hours from NYC - maybe by a jet propelled car and 2 speeding tickets on the way. It is 4 hours on good roads at best, if you catch the weekend crowd it may easily take 5 plus hours. Lots of traffic between NYC and Kingston heading towards Hunter and others. There is also LOT of local road driving past Albany to get there.
