Where are we going today?
The Science Museum of Virginia is filled with cool things for the family to do. The fun starts in front of the building with a 29-ton globe floating on water. Walk right up to it and give it a push – yes you can move the earth! Stop by the giant pendulum inside the front door. It’s a popular gathering space as people watch to see it knock down its next peg. It’s satisfying – and a great way to realize that the earth is moving as we stand on it. What to do next? Are you near a time when rats play basketball – or is there something happening on the demo stage that strikes your fancy? Do you want to take in an IMAX film on the 5-story dome screen in the IMAX®DOME? Visit the live animal lab or Eco Lab. Journey through life in the 3 galleries of Bioscape. Explore space and light. Merge creativity and science in the Science Unplugged gallery. Outside is your chance to check out New Energy Virginia, the Reynolds Aluminaut and historic trains that remind you the Science Museum is housed in a historic train station. Want to visit a house of the future – ask about a tour of the Virginia Tech Solar House. Interested in gardening? Find out if a tour is scheduled for Green Acre behind the museum and take your own walk through the BayScapes Garden out front. And if the stars call your name, check the schedule for a planetarium show or the once a month live planetarium presentation called LiveSky.

Great place to take the kids!! Lots of hands on learning for the kids & adults, & a dome shaped theater that was pretty awesome too!!! My favorite was the mind bender section, spent lots of time there & really worked my brain. Give yourself at least 3 hours to see & try everything in here. Definitely recommend this place.. lots of fun!!

Fantastic time even for adutls. Spent hours in the mind bender section for puzzles. It would be easy to spend a whole day here and still have things to do the next day. I didn't even get to experience rat basketball which I was highly anticipating.
