Where are we going today?

The Route of the Hiawatha is the "Crown Jewel" of rail-to-trail mountain bicycle trails in the USA. The 15 mile long Hiawatha Trail utilizes the abandoned Milwaukee railroad grade, near Lookout Pass Ski Area, which has been described as one of the most scenic stretches of railroad in the country.

The Hiawatha includes 10 tunnels and 7 sky high trestles along the crest of the beautiful Bitterroot Mountains. The 1.66 mile long St. Paul Pass tunnel is a highlight of the trail. The best part is.... it's all a gentle downhill ride with shuttle buses at the bottom trailhead ready to take you and your bike back to the top.

The experience delivers a one of a kind adventure for families and riders from around the world. Lookout Pass Ski Area serves as the operations center and is located right alongside Interstate 90 at the Idaho/Montana state line, 12 miles east of historic Wallace, Idaho. Had our bikes repaired here for the Hiawatha Trail, the staff was super friendly and awesome! They fixed two of our bikes, only charging for the parts.

    Great Ski resort.

    Pros:
-Its cheap. All the surrounding ski resorts are more expensive then lookout.
-Unless its a holiday or "Toyota Tuesdays" its not very busy. This means less lines at the chair lift.
-They have rentals available and they have never not had your size from my experience.
-They have a nice lodge, and sometimes have a entertainer there Fridays and Saturdays who is a hoot!

Lookout has the best prices and is working on expanding their services at this resourt. Can't wait to see it happen. It will be awesome to see their future expansions. Another lift is in current progress.

-The slopes almost always have good snow. I've been to more expensive ski areas that have had problems, I've never had a issue with lookout with snow sense I've been going.
-Chair lifts are fairly fast. Not the fastest but not bad at all.

Cons:
-Can be realllly busy on Holidays. But most places are probably.
-Not really a con, but the drive can be tough without good snow tires or 4x4.
-On the busy days the lodge can be really crammed and it can be really hard to find a seat. I don't normally see this problem on normal weekends though.

Highly recommend! My favorite place to go skiing.
