Where are we going today?

West Virginia is an INCREDIBLE place to get out into the outdoors, and for those active families, River Riders gives you so many options to choose from, you might have to stay for a whole week!

They are only one hour from DC/Baltimore, so you don't have to travel far to get into an adventurers paradise.

The area is famous for white water rafting, and on the Shenandoah or Potomac you can take a guided or self-guided tours on the rivers, and there are different levels to suit your experience. You can really make a day of it and spend up to 5 hours out on the water!

Get high up into the trees with their canopy tours, and for 2-3 hours you can fly along 8 zip-lines almost 800 feet in length! With suspension bridges and climbs, you will really be challenged - but it will be worth it!

There are a number of tubing tours that you can do with River Riders, both guided and self0guided, again with a series of classes of difficulty, or perhaps you want to canoeing, or stand-up paddle-boarding (that takes some balance skills - we know you can do it!)

Kayaking proves a bit more of a challenge as you are back into the white water territory, or you can get onto dry land and grab your mountain bikes and head out through the trails along the rivers.

Maybe you will be lucky and spot some amazing wildlife!

River Riders also have fishing, rock climbing, and of course fun summer camps where if you haven't had enough adventure - you can go back for more!

A great adventurous option for the active family, in some of the most beautiful wilderness in the country!

Just finished a zipline canopy tour here and LOVED it! Our guides (Fred and Rico, I think?) were awesome, the scenery and views were incredible, the ziplining itself was an adrenaline rush. Safety procedures were obvious enough that I never felt worried or unsafe.

I wish lived closer, because I could really see myself spending a lot more time here. Definitely coming back with my kids.

Had an amazing time on the zip line canopy tour. Seemed pricey but truly worth every penny. We were waiting about 20 minutes after the time they said our guide would meet us and when I inquired what was going on they said the other two people scheduled to go at that time hadn't shown up so they were going to take just us by ourselves - we ended up getting a private canopy tour with four guides! Henry, Russell, Andrew, and Mike were super funny, friendly, and entertaining. By the end of the tour my face literally hurt from laughing so hard the entire...Read More

My family & I purchased a groupon for the zip-line canopy tour and flat water tubing. None of us had ever been zip-lining before and I am so glad we went! We had 4 adults and one 5 year old with us and it was an awesome experience for adults and kids! I truly believe the main reason we had such a great experience is because of our guides, Steve and Jason. They were very informative, understanding, and funny. My mom, who is almost 60, said she felt safe and completely comfortable thanks to them. My nephew, who is 5, did have a couple melt-downs,...Read More

River Riders donated trips to the Arlington Career Center for our Silent Auction. They are very reliable and according to the winners, "tubing is awesome!" We are so happy that we were able to partner with them!

*there are 3 single person bathrooms up a steep hill, these are men/women with one shower, sink, and toilet. So you can go in by yourself, and lock the door. But there are just 3 for 1/2 the campground. I suggest bringing your own cleaner to hose out the bathrooms before you use it.

And please tell your kids to clean up / flush after themselves:)

Really couldn't have asked for a better tour, guides, or day - Can't wait to come back!!

I truly believe the main reason we had such a great experience is because of our guides, Steve and Jason. They were very informative, understanding, and funny. My mom, who is almost 60, said she felt safe and completely comfortable thanks to them. My nephew, who is 5, did have a couple melt-downs, and Jason & Steve were so understanding and helpful. They kept the energy up and they even helped encourage/keep him interested (as anyone with kids knows, it's hard to keep a 5yr olds attention for 2 1/2 hours). The guide (obviously) have to zip-line to each tree stand and you could see how much fun they had doing it themselves. I think that's awesome when you can tell that people enjoy their jobs. I really have to say that Jason & Steve made the trip and without them it would not have been the same. I hope that River Riders Inc. will acknowledge them for their outstanding work.

The ladies at the front desk were also super helpful and friendly. Joy checked us in and I kept coming back to her with questions. She was really nice and eager to help. She did not make me feel like I was a burden and was super willing to help and answer all my questions.

We did go flat-water tubing afterwards, as well, however I am now aware that I am totally not one for tubing. My nephew & everyone else enjoyed it (I was kind of freaked out--but that's just me!).

If given the opportunity I 150% suggest using the River Riders Inc. for any zip-line or tubing adventure. It was completely worth it.
