The ice here is great! the rink isnt too cold and it's never to crowded. I skate early in the morning and even then everyone is very friendly. Ice time isn't too expensive either. a pretty great rink all in all.

Let me tell you about playing Ice Hockey at the Raleigh Ice Plex. If you are just looking for a place to hockey well then they might be the place for you. If you're looking for a place to where people just want to have fun, drink a beer after the game, and a place where the staff care well then you're in for a treat. The Ice Plex does not care about the players. It seems as if they almost promote player brutality. If you want to be able to play hockey without worrying about being injured THEN STAY AWAY. The Ice Plex attracts the angriest people....Read More

If you want to play in a lower adult league hockey team, don’t plan on bringing your kids to watch games, and don’t mind mediocre ice, then this is the place for you!

I’ve been going to Ice Plex for almost 3 years to watch my boyfriend and other friends play adult league hockey. At first it wasn’t so bad and I found its quirks hilarious. I could look past the fact that the manager looks like a balding, pregnant Seth Rogan, put up with the moldy smell that permeates the entire facility, and was amused by the disgruntled Juggalo employee.

I don't know how this place is rated so highly when the reviews themselves don't justify the score :-(

The only saving grace is they had ice to skate on, but just barely...
It was clear they had lessons or something just before open skating but didn't bother to clean up the ice. The front entrance area especially was completely chewed up.

The staff is beyond inattentive. It's clear most would prefer to be somewhere else. Just getting their attention as they stand around the lobby area is difficult. On the ice it was worse. There's no clear staff...Read More

Public skating is an over priced joke. The ice condition is horrible and dangerous. They do not make ice here or they choose not to.

Some of the staff, lead by the hockey director Russ Damron, at Ice Plex also participate in the adult leagues. While this shouldn't be a problem it is because they bend the rules in their favor. Honestly I would just pray you would never have a game against them. They are the biggest group of thugs on ice I have ever seen. Better not win a battle on the boards against them or you'll be getting fist to the face.

I would recommend going to RCI for more casual hockey and a better run business. It is a wonder how Ice Plex keeps its business.

My perspective has changed however as my friends moved up in the league and began to play more competitively. In Intermediate, the manager/Seth Rogan’s doppelganger has a team made up of him, Ice Plex referees, violent players with anger issues and whatever subs he can get from the higher adult league and NCSU club team. The games are horrific to watch because they are always itching to start fights. Everytime I watch them play, I honestly regret not bringing a camera to help file a police report. And obviously the refs are biased towards the manager's team because they play on the same team! This team gets to play by its own rules that they make up on a whim.

To be fair, there is one perk. Sometimes the workers at Ice Plex will let you bring your dog inside! Yay, puppies!

The staff is beyond inattentive. It's clear most would prefer to be somewhere else. Just getting their attention as they stand around the lobby area is difficult. On the ice it was worse. There's no clear staff presence on the ice to mitigate injuries.

The equipment rentals were in poor condition. This is based on my own and the rest of my parties experience. Almost all the laces were completely chewed off at the ends making them too short to know properly. The one set of laces we got that weren't too long were about 1.5 ft too long and needed to be tucked into the skate. The skates themselves have seen better days. I suggest bringing large socks because the inside of the skates are all if not most of the padding.

The real cherry on top was the song choices for open skate. The people on the ice were about 75% children with some as young as 6 (guessing their age but VERY young). Despite this, the songs played were a lot of explicit hip-hop beats. Pretty sure an eight-year-old doesnt need to hear about grinding on hoes at an ice rink.

I cant imagine ever going back...
