About this activity

Pamplin Historical Park, and the accompanying National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, is set on 424 acres of historic land, features a host of activities and attractions for families, to encourage learning about the Civil War and life in the antebellum South.

On the property, you'll find world-class museums, as well as stunning Antebellum homes, a National Landmark Civil War battlefield, and even a slave life exhibit. Dubbed the "new crown jewel of Civil War sites in America", Pamplin Historical Park really is an exceptional educational experience for kids, who want to step back through the history books.

Your journey at Pamplin Historical Park begins with the National Museum of the Civil War Solider. Passing granite markers that honor those who died in the conflict, you'll experience a number of galleries that tell first hand accounts of the battle from the soldiers themselves.

Continuing on, the Tudor Hall Plantation is a incredibly preserved 1812 dwelling that has been restored to it's wartime appearance, and even furnished with period antiquities, so kids can really gain an understanding of what life would have been like over 200 years ago.

The Field Quarter is where you can see exhibits and a film, as well as reconstructed buildings that interpret the lives of field slaves, and place slavery in its historical context.

There's a Military Encampment that depicts the lives of Civil War soldiers in camp, with costumed interpreters demonstrating soldier life. Kids, have you ever wondered how soldiers cooked, fired rifles, and used winter huts? You can see it first hand here!

Also at Pamplin Historical Park are trails which wind through the battlefield, offering unique opportunities to lear about Confederate fortifications, and preserved military dams and rifle pits, and you can even see The Banks House, which was the headquarters of Lt Gen Ulysses S Grant in 1865!

There is SO much to see and do at Pamplin Historical Park, they allow your admission to be valid to two days, just so you can go back and make sure you see everything!

A fascinating day out in Virginia, where history really does come to life.
