Where are we going today?

There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash.

Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 to 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy.

Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2 to 3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Here's the thing, you need to know where you're going BEFORE you get in. Getting a "surprise" when you get trafficked by the carriage police can be great or crappy. We got crappy yesterday. Our guide was very nice and knowledgable about architecture but it was cold and she took us on every shady street in Charleston and then down by the Ashley for some extra wind.. My Mom was a pop-cycle by the time the tour ended. I guess it wasn't her fault as she advised us that we might end up on some back streets BUT had we known, we wouldn't have taken...Read More

I relocated to Charleston almost three years ago and this weekend I played hostess to my parents and aunt. Old South was an excellent part of our adventures. Our driver/tour guide (Raeli) was both knowledgeable and experienced. Her personality and charm made for a perfect day. We loved our horse (Vern) as well. I was very glad that I selected Old South for our tour. They were easy to find, professional and had a perfect set up for my aging relatives.

I had Raeli as a tour guide and she was FABULOUS! She could answer any question, was clearly passionate, and down right hilarious. Her tour made my whole trip- she gave me some great recommendations of places to visit and a really good overall run-down of Charleston. I recommend taking this tour first thing when you arrive in Charleston- it really sets the whole trip up.

    Great job, Raeli!

Raeli (and Bill) gave us a great tour. Besides all the great knowledge of Charleston, Raeli was very personable and entertaining.

Had a fun experience. Got to see beautiful Charleston from a unique angle. Guide was knowledgeable and humorous, but a loudspeaker would have been appreciated (I'd understand if the city doesn't allow it). I wish they offered a multi-tour package- I can't be the only one who would like two tours in a day, since no one tour can show all of the best sites. I digress- it was a highlight experience, and I would definitely go again.

Go for a personal carriage ride with 2 or 4 people, the larger tours can suck, ours did.
