Where are we going today?

Dive those kids straight into a vat of culture at the Oakland Museum of California! Spend the say taking in all the incredible art, paintings and installations that fill the various exhibits.

This is the cultural story of California.

There are always a number of exhibitions on throughout the museum. These rotate, so make sure you keep an eye on what's on, and what's coming up so you don't miss out. It also means that you can keep going back and seeing something new!

There are also permanent exhibitions which take you through a collection of California inspired works. The Gallery of California Art is a living and breathing space filled with energy and ideas on the states land, people and creativity.

The Gallery of California History is always evolving, and focuses on the profound cultural impact of immigration on the state. There are over 2000 artifacts to check out in this exhibition alone!

There are even artifacts that date back to the gold rush!

Then finally at the Oakland Museum of California, the Gallery of California Natural Sciences showcase the states climate, habitats, ecosystems, wildlife and geology, with a focus on Oakland.

Here there are over 100,000 research specimens, including birds and mammals, reptiles and amphibians!

Think museums aren't family friendly? Think again! This museum offers free entry for those under 18 (and half price admission for adults!) where you can enjoy food trucks and music during these family nights!

The museum also hold family programs like the History Hangout for kids aged 5 - 12, so check the calendar events to see what's coming up!

If it's a lovely day, don't forget to spend some time in their gardens! Art is everywhere!

    SWEET HOME, CALIFORNIA

What a great museum - I can't believe I hadn't been here before my recent visit. I think that this is a great place for adults to enjoy, even though there was some interactive stuff for tthe kiddos. There's a LOT to see so don't show up an hour before closing, like we did. Do show up on a Friday night when it's half-priced entry (even though the regular fee of $12 is very reasonable).

Awesome place to learn! I love their exhibits and Off The Grid. I thought it would be a small place but holy moly, I was wrong! There's so much to see from paintings, displays, etc. If you go during Off The Grid, the admission is only $5!

The museum had some great exhibits when we visited. The staff was friendly and helpful. Some of the older exhibits could use some updating though. The outside area is a great place to spend an afternoon and have a picnic. They also have free admission once a month.

What an incredible museum. After spending 4 hours here on a rainy Saturday I had only made it through about 1/3 of the entire place.

I really enjoyed the California history level. The exhibits were creative, interactive, and really well done overall.

    I'd highly recommend this place.
