Where are we going today?

The New Canaan Nature Center is a not-for-profit environmental education center and sanctuary dedicated to helping people of all ages better understand, appreciate and care for the world of nature. The New Canaan Nature Center features diverse habitats, including wet and dry meadows and woodlands, two ponds, dense thickets, an old orchard and a cattail marsh. Two miles of trails criss-cross the site that is one of the six largest tracks of open space in New Canaan. Our trails and grounds are open from dawn to dusk and admission is free to the public. In addition to our natural trails, visitors are welcome to enjoy an arboretum and a variety of gardens including the Sally Waters Herb Garden, James L. Crider Memorial Bird and Butterfly Garden, the Swallen Wildflower Garden, and Susan B. Hanson Memorial Naturalists' Garden.

They make the learning fun and educational for the children who begin at age two and continue through age three or four. The Nature Center has vast areas of unspoiled land with long trails for hiking bee keeping maples syrup making aviaries swamps wetlands densely forested areas with huge old trees from which the children extract maple syrup. It's an enjoyable experience for all ages providing a haven from busy lives with the chance to commune with nature. It's a non profit organization established to help young and old learn about the environment. Subsidies are available for those who can't afford it. Located in a beautiful rustic setting conveniently near New York and surrounding towns the New Canaan Nature Center is a wonderful place to have an education especially before beginning kindergarten. It offers a happy environment for creating sound minds and bodies. I attended school there at the age of two and I loved it :)
