Where are we going today?

Art is an amazing thing, and the Nevada Museum of Art is a place where kids and the whole family can spend a few hours admiring, studying and appreciating amazing collections.

There are always a number of collections and exhibitions for you to experience at the Nevada Museum of Art - often changing so there is always something new for you to see! Each of the exhibitions feature an artist or a style - from drawings and paintings - using different techniques and colors.

The museum's permanent collection is actually divided into four focus areas all with a different theme: Work Ethic, Contemporary Art, Art of the Greater West and Altered Landscape Photography. The art collections consist of an amazing 2,000 objects which have been collected from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Center for Arts + Environment actually houses more than 20,000 archives!  This is a center that is dedicated to the studying and awareness of interactions with people creatively - which is a fascinating new look for kids at how they can communicate through creativity!

The Nevada Museum of Art always has ongoing programs throughout the year, where scholars, writers, and other specialists come and share their knowledge just for you! Through talks, tours, and discussions, and even live music the first Thursday of each month!

Free guided tours on Thursday and weekends, and hands-on activities for kids aged 3 and up the second Saturday of each month - why wouldn't you take the family to the museum!

Forget a night at the museum - it's family day out at the museum!

A variety of exhibits provides something interesting for everyone. The exhibits change somewhat frequently making repeat visits a pleasure. Unfortunately, no photographs are permitted inside the galleries. The roof deck may be closed due to ice in the winter, so check ahead - the views of the city and mountains are very nice.

Do yourself a favor and go to the top floor. Awesome view of the mountains that surrounds the area. The exhibits are well put together and quite spacious. Sad this museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday when I went, but make sense it opens on the weekends. Definitely worth visiting.
