How much do you know around Iron Range? If you asked "what's Iron Range" then you definitely need to visit the Minnesota Discovery Center!
The Minnesota Discovery Center is filled with exhibits - both permanent and temporary - that cover the history of the Iron Range, and everything that goes with it. It's all about the land, the mines, the people, and the work.
The center is also the LARGEST museum complex in the state outside of the Twin Cities - so very impressive!
Throughout the museum, kids can learn about a whole range of topics, from immigration, to open pit mining, to even the taconite process - all relating to the Iron Range period. They can learn all about the history of transportation, and schools and salons in the area, as well as geology! So much learning to be had!
There are outdoor exhibits where families can experience the landscape, including exploring an open pit mine, and even riding the trolley! These outdoor parks form a "living museum" where kids can interact with the story tellers, to really feel what it was like to like during this historic time!
Kids can go back even further in the Prehistoric Minnesota exhibit, where it showcases how the first Minnesotans lived as far back as 10,000 years! Through archaeology, they can read all about how artifacts tell us how people lived in the past, and even touch a replica bison skull that was uncovered in a nearby state park. Amazing!
The Minnesota Discovery Center also have fun Discovery Days where the family can hop on the trolley, get creative and connect even more with history.
Learning has never been so fun - so jump that trolley and let's explore history!
