This urban day-use park attracts visitors to swim, sailboard, and fish. A display in the Fish, Wildlife & Parks headquarters located on site provides weekday interpretation of the park. Plan to stretch your legs on a walk around the lake or stop by the FWP Region 5 headquarters on the south shore to fish on Roger's Pier or tour the interpretive center.

Awesome trails for biking and hiking, good scenic over views, even got to see a few horses up close.

A few paths close for a few weeks when the river is abnormally high.

It had been several years since my last visit to Afton State Park. It is as beautiful as I remember it. It is also as confusing: while the trail has numerous maps to help guide park visitors, they are mostly useless and sometimes just plain wrong. Take a paper map when you enter the park and use it, it will save you from getting lost.

I'll try and break my rating up into a couple parts. I think the over all convenience to wilderness is great! The sites were far apart from each other some closer to the trail that walks in others not. Overall lots of beautiful wilderness and with a lot of trails to hike.

I will rate this is a comparable hike in site.

Afton has awesome camping sites, great, great trails to hike, and great picnic and swimming places. My family really enjoys it. Cindi/July of 2011
