Where are we going today?

Kids watching too much television? Then the best cure for that is get them out into the great outdoors! If you are looking for a beautiful piece of nature to take the family in Laredo, we think Lake Casa Blanca State Park might be just what you need!

This lovely and relaxing park just minutes from the Mexican border has tons of outdoor family fun on the way and on land. The perfect family outing!

Ever tried water skiing? Here is a good a place as any to give it a go! Out on the lake you can also take a boat out, or even go for a swim - we know how those hot Texas summers can be! (Don't forget your sunblock and hats though!)

There are trails for mountain-biking and hiking, which will take the kids through varied and beautiful landscapes. There is also another swim area, as well as fun playgrounds where they can jump, climb and hide. Let's get creative!

For those active kids there is tennis and volleyball for them to enjoy, as well as basketball courts. Who's ready to slam dunk! If you want something a bit more relaxing, you can study the birds, wildlife and nature. You can even camp along the shore if you wanted to extend your family day out into an evening experience! The world seems completely different at night!

All of the campsites have water and electricity, and some have sewer hook ups too.

Fishing more your thing? Then you might be lucky enough to reel in a largemouth of catfish - there is a fishing pier as well as a boat ramp.

Oh yes - want to be a ranger? Then kids, ask at the headquarters about borrowing a Junior Ranger Explorer Pack where you can try and earn that badge!

Didn't we tell you that Lake Casa Blanca State Park might be just what you need!

Great park, well run. Of all the parks we visited the past two years this one is the most used by locals. Kind of nice seeing all the families having fun and not being surrounded by (other) snow-birds.

HOWEVER, the locals trash the place, leaving litter all over on weekends. One ranger told us that it took three weeks to clean up after last Easter Sunday.

    Remember everyone, "Trash throws trash."
