Lake Anna is about mid-way between D.C and Richmond. To get to the "mid-point" - the Route 208 bridge.

Take exit 118 Thornburg off I-95 and turn onto Rt 606W. After 5 miles, continue on Rt 208 and 606W, then turn left at the Post Oak, staying on 208 W. After 11 miles you are at the 208 bridge.

Where are we going today?

Lake Anna State Park has 2,300 acres (that's a lot!), including 10 miles of shoreline, for the whole family to enjoy!

So what shall you do today then?  Hmm....how about taking a boat out onto the lake for a relaxing trip on the water?  Maybe you'll see some birds flying overhead with their own families! Or perhaps you would like to relax with a fishing rod, and enjoy some fishing?  Always a great opportunity to update your family on the latest jokes you heard, and stories from school!

if you wanted to join the fish, you can enjoy some swimming as well as the park's sandy beaches, or you can enjoy one of the 11 trails where you can run, hike, horseback ride or take to the two wheeled kind!

During summer, kids can get back to the roots of the Gold Rush days and pan for gold - do you think you might find some?  Rangers can also take you into a real gold mine!  The Goodwin Gold Mine flourish on the park many many years ago - can you imagine all the hustle and bustle that would have happened there back in the day?

They also offer seasonal interpretive programs and self-guided hikes, or you can bring some food and enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch whilst taking in the beautiful view of nature!  Mmmm...breathe that in...what fresh air!

Back out on the lake there is a boat-launching ramp, and you can also rent a number of fun water activities such as jet skiing, pontoon boats and smaller watercraft.

Have fun in nature!

It was a great park. Our family camped there for weekend last summer. We used 2 campers, had 3 vehicles, and a pantoon boat. There was plenty of room for everything we had plus our big brood. The campsites were very clean and well kept. The only issues we really had was; it was hard to get a spit close to the water so we had to take out the boat every evening, and the fishing there wasnt very good. Im not sure if there are certain honey holes, but we barely got any bites and my family are fisherman so it was kind of a disappointment. Other than...Read More

After setting up a hammock (Eno) I was told it had to be taken down because you are not allowed to tie hammocks to trees in the state park. This not the case in other state parks I have visited in other states. My son is a boyscout and they encourage hammocks for camping. Out of principle I asked to have my park fee refunded and was told they could not do that. The park manager really needs to be fired. He/she has no business in that position. My hammock was tied to a tree that was at least 16" in diameter but I was told the rule existed for people...Read More

Other than those little issues it was a great lake and camping spot, we'll definitely be going back this summer!
