Where are we going today?
Art is such a great way for kids to get inspired, and get creative, and the Knoxville Museum of Art is a great way for kids to be introduced to incredible pieces of creativity.
It celebrates the artists and art of East Tennessee, so they can also see that you don't have to be a French impressionist or Spanish abstract painter to be incredible! Anyone can be great at art!
There are always a number of exhibitions happening at the Knoxville Museum of Art. They often have student exhibitions, recent art works, art from the past century and even glass exhibitions! All different techniques and textures to really give kids a sense that art isn't always just paint to paper.
The museum also hold events throughout the year, so make sure you check what's happening so you don't miss anything that might be perfect for your family!
Kids inspired? Great! There are so many learning opportunities for students to connect with the cultures of the region, and learn about art over the past century! There are outreach programs where kids can Meet The Masters, where kids can combine art with fun hands-on activities!
Don't forget to keep an eye out for the Family Fun Days either! Often twice a year, this FUN day is jam packed with super fun art activities for kids, with artist demonstrations and stage entertainment. There are docents in the galleries to talk with guests about the exhibitions, and really fun art-making activities.
Not enough? Good - because there's more! The Creative Corner is perfect for kids of all ages where they have books, drawing easels, hands-on activities, and a fun wall light board encouraging creativity in different forms. This allows kids to release their inner artistic abilities and create those beautiful artworks that they can take home for the family - always a great piece for the fridge or on the wall!
So get creative, and get creating!

The museum's facade hides the intimate setting within. Free admission. Still. Hard to believe! Quality exhibits that usually have something for everyone. Higher Ground highlights East TN, and for those unaware, Ansel Adams is there, too! Consider sending the kids to... Summer Camp? Yep. They have that, too.

I love the place.... it has something for everyone. Alive after 5 is probably my favorite thing at the Museum. Just wish it happened more often!

I'm somewhat of a lover for art so this place was a must. We were greeted by friendly staff when we walked in and given a free map of the museum. The exhibits were very nice. The most notable were the "Thorne Rooms" and the humanlike exhibits on the third floor. Admission is free so its not a ding on the wallet. If ever in the area and you need something cheap or free to do please check this place out. It's definitely worth the trip.

Staff pleasant, slthey may "follow" to rooms but stay politely at the doors and do not follow you or make you feel uncomfortable. Free museum, nice works of art. Worth a visit.
