Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites
Where are we going today?

The Indiana State Museum has three floors full of surprises, each one filled with enough art, science, history and culture to leave you amazed at the things you never knew about the state Hoosiers call home.
Not every museum features mastodonts, a 1927 Stutz-8 AA four-door sedan, a Foucault pendulum, the world's largest Omni-globe and a 17-foot tall steam clock, but those things are all part of the Indiana story. With exhibits covering the Ice Age to the 21st century, the museum is an eclectic, exciting adventure into the past, present and future of Indiana. With frequent rotations of artifacts from its collection and every-changing special exhibits it offers a different experience every time you visit. Here, you will truly "uncover Indiana's secrets"!

I'm hungry!

The historic L.S. Ayres Tea Room is recreated at the museum and open for group visits and special occasions. Please check the website or call 317.232.1637 for hours and specials. The Canal Cafe and Terrace have a wide variety of food options for families as well.

Healthy Eating Options

Salads, soups and made-to-order sandwiches and more available all day in the Canal Cafe.

Teachers Corner

Please sign up on our website for the Educators eNewsletter and visit the educators tab at www.indianamuseum.org as well for field trip information, worksheets, classroom tips, educational trunks and more.

Can I have one of those?

the Indiana Store has 2-stories of unique Indiana treasures from Indiana artisans as well as a wide selection of jewelry, Vera Bradley handbags, stuffed animals, nostalgic candies and items from other decades and more. The offerings are constantly changing to coordinate with current exhibits.

Are we there yet?

Downtown Indianapolis, near the corner of Washington and West Streets, across the street from the towering JW Marriott.

I need a little extra help!

The museum is fully handicap-accessible; please see Guest Services for any help with wheelchairs or other accommodations.

Any Top Tips?

Don't miss the 92-County sculpture walk outside the museum; you can visit it online as well, to see the "why's" behind each sculpture.

Baby Facilities

There is a family-friendly restroom on Level 3 with changing table, etc. Ask in the Canal Cafe for assistance with bottle-warming.
