We have been three different times and loved it. The history, the architecture, and the family are so very interesting. There is such a love of cultures and different countries that influenced the decorating an building of Hearst Castle. The female architecture is very fascinating in itself for the time period. I plan to take my kids when they are older and would appreciate the architecture. I recommend this place and all the tours for kids 8 and up. Definitely not for my 3 and 5 year olds, I visited this place before the kids and loved it.

If you are in the area, near San Luis Obispo or San Simeon, Hearst Castle is a neat tourist attraction. Give yourself at least a half to full day here, lots to see.Walk through the welcome center to the back and look at the various exhibits they have for you. They really give a nice in-depth colorful history to the area and to the Hearst castle (and family). Be sure to also watch the film after you buy your tickets. It’s worth it. I would recommend taking at least two tours. Do the the main rooms and upstairs tours. If you come around dusk, you’ll get to see the sunset from the top of the mountain. We would return.

What an amazing experience. The Castle was beautiful and the views were wonderful. My wife was able to take amazing photos because there was plenty of sunshine. State and National park personnel always provide the best feeling when one is around such historical significance. California is a great state but sometimes people can ruin a good thing. Luckily, at the Castle, one is reminded of some of the great people that made California history.

Well worth the price of admission, this is Citizen Kane’s original fantasy castle. The guided tour was informative and interesting, and the sights and atmosphere simply spellbinding. After the tour of the house enjoy walking through the grounds at your leisure, and chill out next to the irrationally over-the-top beautiful outdoor pool. Everything is well kept and beautifully presented. I’d go back at least once a year if I lived in California.
