A visit to Haleakala National Park really is a special experience when it comes to surrounding yourself with Hawaiian culture. This special place vibrates with stories of ancient and modern Hawaiian heritage, and protects the bond between the land and its people.

Your visit to this stunning national park is more than just a hike in a park. You might catch a glimpse of a rare native bird, or have a hands-on experience with Hawaiian culture. You might feel the breeze rushing through a bamboo forest, or feel the sun on your back as you make your way across a volcanic landscape.

Haleakala National Park is a landscape so varied, if you want a coastal adventure, or one on the summit of an arid caldera, you can make that happen!

Make sure you go prepared, as there is no food, drinks or gas within the park, and it could take up to 45 minutes from either direction for help, but if you are prepared, then it's worth it!

Make sure you try and see a sunset, they are absolutely incredible!

The best place to start your adventure is from the visitor centers, where they can give you tips on your itinerary, and advice on how to travel around.

Haleakala National Park extends from the 10,023 foot (3055m) summit of Haleakala down the southeast flank of the mountain to the Kipahulu coast near Hana. These two sections of the park are not directly connected by road, but both can be reached from Kahului.

Haleakala National Park FAQ’s

Make sure you take what you need as there are no food outlets within the park. You can pick up supplies from the visitor centers.

There is more than one visitor center, so check online the closest to where you will be coming from, as they also have different opening times

Books, maps, and posters are for sale in the Visitor Centers!

Take plenty of water!

In the summit area the following facilities are wheelchair accessible: Park Headquarters Visitor Center, Haleakalā Visitor Center, and Hosmer Grove picnic area

If you arrive at the Summit or Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park and the entrance station is closed, please use the automated self-pay machine located next to the entrance station. The machines only accepts credit cards as payment.
