About this activity

Gladys Porter Zoo is an award-winning zoo that offers more than 31 acres of animal experiences for the whole family!

In fact, this popular Texas zoo offers easy access to some of the rarest animals in the world, and YOU can have a front row ticket!

Throughout the zoo, you'll see natural waterways flowing, and exhibits designed to simulate the animals' natural habitat so you can gain an understanding of how they would have lived in the wild!

In a less than a mile trek, a visitor to theGladys Porter Zoo will encounter a diverse ensemble of 377 species of animals and 225 species of plants! The park is divided into four zoogeographic areas: Africa, Asia, Tropical America and Indo-Australia.

Here, you can see creatures from all around the world, including the grand Galapagos Tortoise, Cuban crocodiles, agile wallabies, tree kangaroos, gibbons, camels, and those African favorites including the giraffe, zebra, rhinos and of course, African lions.

Also at Gladys Porter Zoo is the Herpetarium and Aquatic Wing, a free-flight Aviary, Macaw Canyon, Bear Grottos, a California Sea Lion exhibit and Komodo dragon exhibit.

Don't miss a visit to the new Russell Aquatic Ecology Center where kids can learn all about the aquatic habitats of South Texas.

Another fun experience at Gladys Porter Zoo is the Giraffe Landing Feeding Experience, where YOU have the opportunity to get up close with the giraffe and hand feed them with special feed available for purchase.

It's a WILD day out where the animals from all over the planet are ready to meet you, and you don't even need to leave the state of Texas. Pretty cool, so let's go say hi!
