Gari Melcher was one of the most successful painters of his time, so naturally he was sought after by the rich and famous!
Now, you can visit his life and home at the Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont.
Take a trip through history at the home of Gari and the beautiful young art student that he fell in love with. After meeting on an ocean liner, they spent their years sharing art. What a wonderful story!
Now, more than 100 years later, their legacy lives on and you can learn all about it - right in the very house it happened! Be part of the story!
The historic home dates back to at least the 1790s, but the lost deed means we will never know exactly when it was built - a little mystery in your excursion!
The home has an incredible history, with involvement in the Civil War, to numerous families growing up within it, and adding to the structure.
In addition to the home, you can tour the art and studios, where the magic happened. It also serves to showcase Melchers art, with around 1600 items in total to explore!
The Gari Meclher Home and Studio isn't just an interior experience. There are beautiful restored gardens, as well as trails that you can spend some time enjoying. Just imagine who might have walked the same trails with you over the last few hundred years - it's fun to think about!

They have enriching classes and clubs for students! They offer interactive programs for groups of 10 or more - weekdays only. .
There are four spacious picnic tables for you to enjoy, so why not bring your own lunch!.
It's worth taking bottled water to stay hydrated, and healthy snacks mean kids energy will last longer..
Any Top Tips?
Allow at least 90 minutes for your visit, as there is a 30 minute docent led tour of the house, and then you can explore the gardens, and watch the film.

Need a little extra help?
There is a concrete walkway between facilities, and the entire site is handicap accessible, except for the 2nd floor of the museum.
There is a baby changing table in Museum Shop's Women's Restroom.
