Where are we going today?

It's all things butterflies at the Flying Flowers Butterfly House, located on the Beagle Ridge Herb Farm in Virginia.

If your kids love getting among these beautifully colorful and delicate creatures, then they will love the walk through butterfly house. There are so many to enjoy!

Flying Flowers have always had beautiful butterflies in their gardens, so they created the butterfly house so people could really enjoy them. You can stroll among them, and even enjoy a Butterfly Tea!

Within the gardens they have specialized butterfly plantings - both native and non native plants - which attract 32 different butterfly species. The wonderful thing about Flying Flowers Butterfly House is that because they have a huge variety of plants both with host and nectar properties, they attract butterflies when they are in their adult stage, so when they lay their eggs in the garden kids can see the cycle of life unfolding right in front of them!

Flying Flowers is great for that butterfly interaction, then why not spend time afterwards at the Beagle Ridge Herb Farm too. They have afternoon teas, events, and even classes to teach you about certain vegetables or garden themes.

Located just 10 miles south of Wytheville, they are at a very cool 2,600 feet elevation, and the farm itself is 160 acres in beautiful scenery - so if you love nature this is your place! There are hiking trails on the property through a variety of ecosystems, and the butterflies are found not just in the butterfly house too...can you spot them!?

A wonderful family day out in nature in Virginia!

My family and I have made four visits to the Butterfly house over the years. It never disappoints! We love the atmosphere and there are hundreds of butterfly's. Our favorite is the Blue Morpho. Our kids loved it when they were 9 and 6 and they still loved it at 19 and 16. I think we have all had at least one butterfly land on us each visit. Don't touch them though, just wait for them to fly off on their own.

The other exhibits of spiders and beetles are also very nice and the outside area is full of butterflies in season. Like most other...Read More

A steamy room full of butterflies, but not much else. Prices aren't too bad, though. Probably good for kids or dates.

The other exhibits of spiders and beetles are also very nice and the outside area is full of butterflies in season. Like most other St Louis attractions, it is very reasonably priced.

My family became members of Missouri Botanical Garden last year, so admission to the Butterfly House was free. That is a great perk.
