Everson Museum of Art Syracuse
Where are we going today?
There is so much to learn and discover when it comes to art - it comes in all forms and can be found all across the world! If you're in Syracuse and want to delve into the world of art, then check out the Everson Museum of Art. They have drawings, sculpture, pantings and graphics, and even ceramics, and their 11,000 pieces all have one thing in common: they are all American.
The Everson Museum of Art was actually the first museum to ever devote it's entire collection to American art. It's because of this, that kids can really get an understanding of how incredible American art is, and it also allows the museum to have direct encounters with the artists themselves.
The museum not only have rotating exhibitions (so you can always see something new!), but they have their permanent collection too. This way, if you have favorites, you can go back to see them too!
The permanent collection has around 11,000 objects, with paintings being the primary collection. If you have younger kids, they can still enjoy the colors on all the art work, and it's a great way to get them talking about what they like and don't like about it!
It's also a great way for kids to understand that art isn't just about paintings - it can be anything as long as they are expressing themselves!
The Everson Museum of Art has Decorative arts, as well as works on paper from the 19th and 20th centuries, and even photos and videos.
Did you think videos could be art? Yep!
So get ready for the kids to be inspired and feel creative - and you never know, you might have a little Banksy in the family and not realize it yet!

I was there on a fourth grade field trip & I loved it!

Very small and sparse. This museum took us only 15 minutes to go through. I think we spent the most time in an installation about Farside-esque comics. What do you expect for $5 donation? I was more interested in the Erie Canal Museum.

Large building, but where's the art? I remember going to this museum years ago when we lived in Syracuse before. I will admit that their ceramics collection is excellent but beyond that...the only word I can think of is pathetic. I am from Maine and the Portland Art Museum is so far superior to the Everson that it does not even bear discussion.
