About this activity

The Eagle River Nature Center is an amazing destination for kids to really get into nature, and explore what it's all about. There is also a great indoor nature center where they can continue their learning experience, and one that also hosts great programs throughout the year.

The Nature Center is where kids and adults alike can enjoy various nature studies , as well as 9 miles of hiking trails, and public use facilities for overnight camping.

As soon as you drive along the Eagle River Road you'll start to discover the beauty of the Eagle River Valley. The residential areas will begin to give way to stunning views of glacially-carved mountains.

Then, at Mile 12 you'll discover the log cabin nature center, which is a threshold for connecting to the ever-changing landscape beyond.

What's also great is that the Nature Center is operated by a small, grass roots non-profit organization which means that your visit means so much more, as you'll be supporting both nature and education.

The trails are open 24/7, year round, but the Nature Center has opening hours so just be aware.

Make sure you take your camera and binoculars, because you never know what amazing Anchorage wildlife you just might spot!
