About this activity

The Detroit Historical Museum has been giving families a place to visit on their day out since 1928. That's a lot of happy families! Detroit is an AMAZING city, with an incredible history, so it only seems fitting to have an entire museum dedicated to it! In fact, it's the ONLY museum dedicated to it!

The Detroit Historical Museum has both signature exhibitions, as well as changing ones which there will always be something new for you on future trips!

The Signature Exhibitions showcase over 300 years of the city's rich history - and cover a number of topics!

What would a museum about Detroit be without those iconic motors! America's Motor City exhibitions lets you explore the stories of how the cars were built, and also how the cars built the city!

You can get up close to the story of the underground railroad, which is actually home to a number of safe houses with people wiling to help runaway enslaved people. Pretty amazing stuff!

From Frontiers to Factories, hear the stories of those workers living in the city from 1701 all the way to 1901. What do you think it would have been like to grow up in Detroit in the 20th century? We bet it's pretty different to what you know today!

Did you know that music played a bit part in Detroit's history too? The Kid Rock Music Lab is a fun and interactive space for kids to explore the legacy of Detroit's music. All the way from Gospel to Mowtown.

It's an amazing experience walking through the streets of Detroit as they would have been back in history, so step back in time and learn things about this amazing city you never knew!
