Where are we going today?

If you want a beautiful and relaxing day out in Pasadena, then head on over to Descanso Gardens - the incredible gardens with a host of different plants and flowers for you to enjoy all year round.

Kids will love walking around the different varities of gardens, each of which has it's own personality. Each season will also bring something new, so you can go back more than once!

You can explore the Ancient Forest with a number of plants that are virtually unchanged since the days of the dinosaurs. A fascinating look into what life would have been like in the Jurassic age. Kids, can you just imagine those huge creatures roaming around these ferns and redwoods?

The Center Circle is great for educating kids on how beautiful a garden can be that is conscious of hose it uses it's water, and the popular Rose Garden is 5 acres of 3,000 beautiful roses!

At Descanso Gardens, you can explore the woodlands plants, or you can transport yourself into Asia with the Japanese-style garden that blends tea, zen and nature! A fun place to take the kids too is Nature's Table, where the edible garden is filled with fruit trees and vegetables, as well as herbs. It's a fun way to show kids where food comes from!

If the gardens weren't enough at Descanso Gardens, you can take a ride on the Enchanted Railroad! A light-hearted look at the gardens is enjoyed on an 1/8th scale replica of a real diesel train, and is great for all ages!

So why not enjoy a day out surrounded by the incredible nature at Descanso Gardens - it's a BLOOMING great day out!

The girlfriend and I visited Descanso Gardens last Saturday when they were offering free admission to the public. Arrived there a little after 2 and the line was pretty long! Fortunately, parking was free and wasn't an issue and it didn't take us too long from where we started to the ticket booth.

Although the map may make the whole establishment seem big, I'd definitely say it doesn't come close to the size of Huntington Library. But it's definitely an area big enough where you can end up spending several hours in, especially if you're just trying...Read More

A poorman's Huntington Library at just $6 dollars to get in if you are a student. It is a little hidden, but once there, parking is plentiful. A few hours time is all that is needed to explore the entire venue. This is the type of place you would bring a date. My favorite area was the rose garden.

Beautiful little retreat only minutes from the city. Plenty of free parking. Free admission on Tuesdays. Discount rates for students.

Whenever, I am in the La Cañada area, I like to make a quick stop at Descanso. This place offers the most tranquil walk where you can be alone with your thoughts. I like going just an hour before closing, I find that not many people are around at this time.

A great space, with distinct foliage, oaken archways, and gurgling fountains.

Don't miss Descanso Gardens. A beautiful site to get away from the angst of LA. Many many acres of easy walks among beautiful California oaks, a massive rose garden, Japanese garden, the Boddy House and art gallery for art shows that change out every few weeks. Great spot for flower photography. We go to Descanso as frequently as our schedule permits. Worth supporting with a family membership.

Wonderful restful gardens. Large rose garden, over 60,000 camellia trees, oaks and more. A volunteer "Carl" gave our group an outstanding tour of the grounds. A must see place!

But it's definitely an area big enough where you can end up spending several hours in, especially if you're just trying to enjoy the sights and try to have a picnic there.

Didn't seem like there was much to see in terms of flowers and what not, considering it's Winter and the cold weather. They do have activities and events though that are complimentary with your visit. For instance, the weekend we were there, they had tea tastings and arts & craft activities for most of the day.

Overall, it was an enjoy experience and I definitely wouldn't mind coming back to check this place out again to do more exploring. Too bad it's quite a distance from the OC area though...
