About this activity

If you just love the Connecticut outdoors, the wildlife, the trees, the space, then you might want to visit the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center!

Here, they are a combination of a few attractions, so whatever your interests, you can find what suits you!

They are part wildlife sanctuary, part visitor attraction and part educational facility.

The Center features all-new exhibits highlighting the habitats and wildlife of southeastern Connecticut, so kids can really enjoy a learning experience as they explore the wilderness, as well as take to the ten miles of trails that wind through a beautiful 300-acre wooded preserve.

You can search for bluebirds in the meadow, look for those adorable painted turtles or bullfrogs in the pond, or admire the summer wildflower garden as you simply enjoy a peaceful walk in the woods.

Inside the museum you can find woodland, wetland, and meadow displays that showcase southeastern Connecticut’s unique habitats and wildlife-  you might even have come across them before, and many of which can be found throughout our beautiful sanctuary.

Kids can get a close-up view of live frogs, fish, turtles, and snakes. They can meet magnified centipedes, ants and mushrooms in the Life Under a Log exhibit, or they can experience a “Night in the Meadow” in the small theater.

Kids can even learn to recognize local birds in the classroom exhibit that features more than 200 mounted bird specimens, with other exhibits featuring birds eggs, nests and skulls.

Through natural history exhibits, educational classes and outreach programs, they hope to educate visitors of all ages about the unique interrelationships of animals, plants and non-renewable resources - so why not join the list of families who have done just that!
